Notburga trail (Notburgaweg) Jagerberg

The Notburgaweg Jagerberg was the traditional way to school for school children in the last century.

Via small side roads and idyllic forest and field paths, the 10km Notburgaweg leads you past the Stererbauer wine tavern to Jahrbach and from there via Wetzelsdorf in the direction of Mettersdorf. From the other side of the valley, you will return to Jagerberg on the traditional church and school path!

The Notburgaweg owes its name to St. Notburga, who is depicted on a stone sculpture at the church entrance. The ears of corn in her hand indicate that she is the patron saint of agriculture and responsible for a good harvest. The Notburga Kirtag, which takes place here every year in September, is one of the largest fairs in Austria.

While hiking, you can enjoy many beautiful views of the southeast Styrian hill country along the way.

From the church we hike along the Grabenland Trail on the crest of the hill in the direction of Jahrbach. After crossing a small hilltop, we leave the little road at the turnoff to the Stererbauer wine tavern, cross the farm and reach the edge of the forest. Follow it downhill to the end of the clearing, where a path to the right leads into the forest and finally brings us into the valley to Jahrbach. There we follow the Saßbach to the right for a short distance and then cross the valley to Wetzelsdorf. In the village we first branch off in the direction of Glojach, but then hike up to the right at the chapel and follow the gravel road before the forest entrance, which leads us slightly uphill through the forest. At the top we come out of the forest at a few houses and follow the cross road to the left. It leads us past a game reserve and through Mitterbach comfortably into a side valley, where we follow the crossroad again to the left, in order to come back to Wetzelsdorf. Now we leave the village along the main road in the direction of Mettersdorf, but immediately after the end of the village we turn off into the fields. Passing several wayside crosses and crossing a small bridge, we walk across the richly cultivated valley floor to the other side of the valley. The wayside crosses show us that we are now on the traditional church and school path to Jagerberg. Last but not least, the trail climbs quite steeply on a forest path to the church. If you only want to walk a shorter loop, you can also walk only one loop of the eight-shaped hiking trail and branch off directly in Wetzelsdorf on the way back to Jagerberg.
