Stage 06 From Glacier to Wine South Route Gollinghütte - Preintalerhütte

This stage of the hiking route "From glacier to wine" certainly leads us to one of the most beautiful and impressive places of the alpine mountain world, to the Klafferkesseln in the middle of the Schladminger Tauern. Surefootedness and a head for heights are necessary, especially in the area of the Greifenberg.
In the Klafferkessel, a former glacier floor, there are about 30 mountain lakes in the middle of the Natura 2000 European protected area Schladminger Tauern. The Klafferkessel itself consists of two interlocking cirques with a vast number of partially iced lakes of various sizes. The largest are the Untere Klaffersee, the Rauhenbergsee and the Obere Klaffersee. Until well into summer, many of the lakes are still covered with ice. Mosses and lichens, in combination with the lakes and the wild rock scenery, create the impression of a primeval landscape resembling a tundra.

Detaillierte Informationen zur Anreise finden Sie hier.

From the Gollinghütte (Tel. +43 676 5336288) we hike on this stage of the hiking route "From glacier to wine" first in numerous hairpin bends over steps and rock shoulders, past a small mountain lake on the left hand side to the Greifenbergsattel. Depending on the season, it can also happen that the last meters of altitude to the Greifenbergsattel are covered with snow due to the slope. After this long ascent, a panoramic view opens up to us on all sides, which will certainly remain in our memories forever. From here we also have probably the most beautiful view of the Klafferkessel with its numerous lakes and lakes. Very dominant and framing the Klafferkessel are the dark green, strongly indented flanks of the Waldhorn. In the foreground, the small and larger lakes shine out in the green of the mosses, which are distributed on different levels. Still further to the east, the summit of the Hochwildstelle appears and below it the beautifully green slopes of the "Himmelreich".

Enough of gushing, the further path leads us on a steep alpine climb in steep switchbacks downhill to the Obere Klafferscharte, where the steep steps are secured with fixed ropes only at the beginning. In the basin itself we move on beautiful green moss from one lake to the next to reach the Untere Klafferscharte. Passing the Unterer Klaffersee, we hike further once again over a small scree and gravel steep step down to the alpine landscape of the Lämmerkar. After crossing the Waldhornbach stream, we continue to follow the Central Alpine Trail 02 over the increasingly flat meadow path down to the Preintaler Hut (Tel. +43 664 1448881) and Waldhornalm (Tel. +43 3687 61475). Tip: since we are in the middle of high alpine terrain, we get the weather forecast for the next stage to the Putzentalalm from the hut host.
