Lautenberg & Schaufelberg circular / Trail 7

Sounds exhausting to climb 2 mountains in 2 states, but in our country the hills are also called "mountains". Tour is cozy and suitable for families. First up the Lautenberg with the impressive drilling site and the most beautiful view over the Therme. Then you soon reach the Burgenland. At the Schaufelberg short forest path and more beautiful viewpoints. At the end maybe rest at the Schaffelbadteich?
A popular path, because also little asphalt and the length with just under 4 km is only a "longer walk". And yet you cross national borders. But you need neither identity papers nor special language skills. You go from Styria to Burgenland and back again. Even if it seems to be too hot for hiking - on this way you will always find "cooling" parts of the forest. At the Thermenheurigen (open from 5:00 p.m., note rest days) or at Buschenschank Riegler's Wein-Rast-Platzl (= self-service) there is the possibility to get some refreshment. Immediately after the Heurigen there is a lot of entertainment: the bottle turning is especially fun in the group, one learns at the tree press how wine and fruit were pressed in former times. You should also plan a rest on the floating lounger or on the floating wine bottle. A must is the detour to the largest walk-in wine bottle with wine glass in Austria. On the viewing platform of this you have an exhilarating view of the spa resort Loipersdorf to the mountains Wechselland.

Detailed information on how to get there can be found here.
Start is in front of the spa and you continue left towards Hotel Stoiser. Vis á vis it goes into the forest (many trails start here). At first, the route leads the same with red running track and other hiking routes. At a clearing in the forest, however, you go left and thus leave all other trails. After a forest ascent you reach the drill site Lautenberg. After passing the Thermenheurigen, you have already "climbed" the Lautenberg. Here you have the most beautiful view of the thermal spa area. An old tree press shows how fruit and wine were pressed in the past, and if you feel like it, you can enjoy the beautiful view a little longer in the suspended lounger. Continue along the dirt road into the small forest - at the end follow the road to the right until you reach the next entry road on the left just before the Styrian/Burgenland border. Here you continue half left slightly uphill. After about 100 m you cross the national border. A so-called "Maria Theresien stone" shows here the former border between Austria and Hungary. Here already begins the Schaufelberg. After another 400 m you reach an asphalt road and continue here following the road to the left. After 700 m - at the bottom of the valley - continue to the left of the road. Now you are back in Styria. After about 200 m you turn left and pass the Congress Loipersdorf on your left. In front of you is the Schaffelbad with the pond and the Binderberg drilling site. Go around the pond and after a short stretch of forest you are already on the main road. Here you go right on the sidewalk again past the Hotel Stoiser and back to the spa entrance.
Around the tree press at the Thermenheurigen there is a lot of "entertainment": Spin the bottle, floating lounger, floating bottle and the most beautiful view of the spa resort from the viewing platform of the walk-in wine bottle with wine glass (largest in Austria).
