Across Joglland

Technically easy, but somewhat more demanding two-day hike along forest, field and farm tracks, always with beautiful panoramic views of Joglland.
This tour takes all its walkers into the heart of the East Styrian low mountain range landscape of Joglland with a finale in the Waldheimat. The tour starts at the spiritual and cultural center of the region, Vorau Abbey with its baroque collegiate church and unique library, and continues past the Kräftereich St. Jakob im Walde exhibition center to the birthplace of one of Austria's greatest writers in Wakdheimat. Along the Barbara Sicharter pilgrimage trail via the Kraftpfad and the Kaiser Karl Weg to the Christmettenweg - a hike into the soul of the "forgotten country".

More information

From Vienna via the A2 southern motorway to the Friedberg/Pingau exit and further via the Lafnitztal to Vorau. From Graz via Hartberg and the Lafnitztal to Vorau. Further information on arrival: Stift, Vorau
Day 1:From the Augustinian Canons' Monastery in Vorau via the Barbara Sicharter Trail (see tour: Hiking for mind and soul - the pilgrimage trails around Vorau Abbey) to Wenigzell (831m). In autumn, you should definitely visit the local parish church, where local hobby artists decorate the entire church with magnificent flower and fruit decorations for the harvest festival! A culinary stop at the Buchtelbar on the western edge of the village is also a must: the largest Buchteln (in the world?) await all connoisseurs. An overnight stay in the flower village of Wenigzell is of course possible, in which case the Joglland Oasis is also a good place to relax.Or continue hiking slightly uphill along the power trail to St. Jakob im Walde (913m, see tour: Strong Habsburgs and barefoot tourists - Kaiserweg and power trail).

In 2008, an exhibition center called "Kräftereich" was opened in St. Jakob im Walde, which impressively presents the forces that affect people in an interactive way - surprises guaranteed!

A visit to Joglland would be worthwhile for this exhibition alone. An overnight stay in St. Jakob im Walde is possible and also makes sense from a touristic point of view.

Vorau Abbey - Wenigzell 3 ½ hours, Wenigzell - St. Jakob im Walde 2 hours

Day 2:Via the Panorama and Kaiserwanderweg trail, the route leads uphill past the municipal office to Gasthof Orthofer (1139m, one of the most beautiful cross-country ski trails in Austria runs here in winter!), where a rest on the terrace with a view of the Styrian Limestone Alps is a perfect idea in fine weather - especially as the owner of the inn is known for her delicious homemade cakes. Now a little monotonous downhill through forests to Ratten (766m, here as a real culinary insider tip: Gasthof zur Klause, awarded a toque and 14 Gault Millaupoints) and, after crossing the Feistritz, uphill again through the church quarter to the Ponyhof. Hike back downhill to St. Kathrein am Hauenstein with the parish church visible from afar. On the Christmettenweg (see tour: from Joglland to the Waldheimat - on the Christmettenweg) to the Lendkreuz and finally uphill again to Peter Rosegger's birthplace (1144m).

The best way to return to the starting point is by bus or cab.

St. Jakob im Walde - Ratten 2 ½ hours, Ratten - St. Kathrein a. H. - Geburtshaus 4 ½ hours

Combination with the Oststeiermark Panoramaweg or alpannonia - long-distance hiking trail.
