Kirchenrunde, Pernegg an der Mur

Open
This path connects the two churches in the municipality of Pernegg in the Almenland Nature Park: the Frauenkirche, a well-known pilgrimage church, and the parish church of St. Maximilian.

The municipality of Pernegg is located directly on the Mur, 10 km south of Bruck an der Mur and 40 km north of Graz. Pernegg is part of the Mur cycle path R2 and the Drachentour mountain bike route and is therefore a mecca for cyclists. With the Pernegg and Mixnitz train stations on the southern railway line, the community of Pernegg is the gateway to the Almenland.

This tour through the districts of Kirchdorf and Pernegg connects the two churches that dominate the townscape: The "Frauenkirche" in Pernegg is a well-known pilgrimage church with a baroque interior, the parish church on Kirchhügel in Kirchdorf is dedicated to St. Maximilian and is a late Gothic complex with defensive tower.

More information

  • We start at the “Steirerbusserl” cafe, there is also parking there.
  • The path leads through the Kirchdorf district, and soon you turn left up the stairs to the parish church.
  • Now we walk down to the outdoor pool and continue to the display turbine.
  • We cross the Mur via the pedestrian bridge; swans can often be observed here.
  • We walk past the popular “Ritschi” inn up to the train station in Pernegg.
  • Through the underpass you now go up to the pilgrimage church “Zur Hl. Maria” (or Frauenkirche), right next to it the “Dorfschenke” invites you to stop off.
  • The way back now leads along the road and the “big” Mur bridge back to Kirchdorf to the “Steirerbusserl” cafe.

Am Weg liegt die Schauturbine des Verbunds, die durch den gläsernen Verbau auch von außen gut besichtigt werden kann.
Along the way is the association's display turbine, which can also be easily viewed from the outside thanks to the glass structure.
