The New Yorker Alex Schultz studied under jazz guitarist George Barnes and at the Berklee College of Music, before moving to Los Angeles in 1979. There, he quickly became part of the roots music scene, playing with Hank Ballard and performing at legendary clubs like Antone’s in Austin, Texas. He has shared the stage with greats like Bo Diddley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Albert Collins. His mix of blues, funk, soul, and jazz, combined with his unique sound and unmistakable groove, makes him a sought-after guitarist at major festivals worldwide – authentic, energetic, and full of feeling.

In 1986 he began his collaboration with William Clarke, recording the award-winning album Blowing Like Hell (Blues Music Award) and contributed to all four Clarke releases on Alligator Records. He also worked with Smokey Wilson, Coco Montoya and Debbie Davies. In 1988, he joined Rod Piazza & the Mighty Flyers for seven years, recording two albums for Black Top Records as well as Live at BB King’s and performed with Jimmy Rogers, Pinetop Perkins and Albert Collins. He also played as a support act for Albert King and BB King.

After leaving in 1995, he worked with Lester Butler, which led to the album 13 Featuring Lester Butler and several tours in Europe. Additionally, he collaborated with Tad Robinson, Finis Tasby, Raphael Wressnig, Big Joe & the Dynaflows and Royal Crown Revue. After over 40 albums he released his first solo album Think About It on Severn Records.

When Alex Schultz and Raphael Wressnig take the stage, blues, rhythm & blues, and soul-jazz merge into a sound that embodies the roots of African American music: raw, honest, and with an unwavering energy that captivates. The Groove Never Stops.
