Traces of a conflict history between Wechsel and Mur.
The period from the 15th to the early 18th century in East and Southeast Styria is characterized by ongoing armed raids and conflicts. Against this backdrop, generations of people set about transforming their living environment into a fortified landscape. They build walls and earthworks, fortify towns, construct defensive churches and camps, fortresses, and armories. Numerous documents in archives and museums preserve the evolution of this fortified landscape. The remnants of the military architecture today shape the area. This publication, edited by Bettina Habsburg-Lothringen and Leopold Toifl, brings both together. A collaboration between museum and library.
