Gossendorf crib trail

Circular trail with over 50 Nativity Scenes

Escape from hectic everyday life and enjoy lovingly designed nativity scenes when Gossendorf becomes a nativity scenes village during Advent. Along the approximately five-kilometer-long circular path, stars point the way to the nativity scenes individually designed by private individuals and families. The nativity Trail around Gossendorf is open to the public every day from the first Sunday in Advent until 6 January (Epiphany). Each nativity scene is unique and often made of pure natural materials (such as roots, wood, moss, twigs, hay, chestnuts and much more). You can also admire a stable nativity scene with live animals or a wine yard nativity scene.

From the barrel nativity scene to the floating to the moving nativity scene, from the baroque nativity scene to the "hay-cattle" nativity scene to the well-hidden "geo-caching" nativity scene, which can only be tracked down by GPS - in Gossendorf, the busy nativity scene builders outdo each other and have since attracted not only television and radio teams, but thousands of wanderlusting visitors who explore the five-kilometer-long hiking trail around the Höchkogel. "Over 50 nativity scenes await onlookers each year," reveals initiator Mag. Josef Ganster. The Gossendorfer is together with local mayor Helmut Marbler proud of the achievement of the local community. The Gossendorf nativity scene is almost certainly the only one of its kind in Styria, probably even in Austria. Behind each of the unique nativity scene  is an enormous effort, in which five to ten people are involved.

With the geo-caching nativity scene, Josef Ganster has created another unique piece dedicated to the modern zeitgeist, which attracts treasure hunters from all over the world. And this is how it works: you log on to www.geocaching.com and receive the coordinates of the hidden nativity scene, which can be expanded with adequate utensils after a successful search.
