Günther Maierhofer has been interested in Riegersburg Castle since his childhood.
At the age of ten, for example, the castle stood in miniature in front of his parents' dwelling.
Four years later, Maierhofer wrote a book with 1,700 handwritten pages about "his castle". In 2005, he then fulfilled his childhood dream. The material gathered over years of work has now been compiled into the so-called "Adventure Tour of Riegersburg Castle", a sensational special program that takes its guests through all parts of what was once "the strongest fortress in Christendom".
Individual attention, hospitality and amazing expertise are the cornerstones of the project, which, by the way, takes place independently of the castle, with the kind permission of the owners. Smiled at in the beginning, the "adventure tour of the Riegersburg" soon developed into a real insider tip of the region. "My goal was to create something far away from the mass tourism of our time! In every word is honestly lived passion for Riegersburg!" says Maierhofer. Experience the magic of the Styrian volcanic land and the drama of days long past in a special guided tour of the highest class.
The guided tours:
1) The adventure tour
This guided tour starts in front of the picturesque parish church in Markt Riegersburg. From there, Günther Maierhofer leads you through the most beautiful castle staircase in Austria - with interesting facts about the castle on the way up! In the second part of the tour you will be guided through the magnificent castle rooms. Duration: 2 hours
2) Group tour with lift ascent
From the meeting point at the valley station, Günther Maierhofer will take the panoramic lift together with you directly up to the castle. At the top he will guide you through the beautiful interiors of the fortress. Numerous exciting stories, told with passion at historical places, will make your visit to the castle an unforgettable experience.
Duration: 1 hour
3) Guided tours for school classes
For school classes of all ages I offer individually designed guided tour programs.
