Kornberg Castle in the Thermen- & Vulkanland experience region is today a popular event and exhibition center along the Castle Road and is directly located on the Vulkanland Route 66.

Local handicrafts, exhibitions & knight’s feasts
Away from the hustle and bustle, Kornberg Castle is situated in Dörfl between Riegersburg and Feldbach, embedded in the landscape. Four towers characterize the two-story structure from the outside, while inside lies a magnificent Renaissance castle courtyard. Already in the 16th and 17th centuries, the once fortified castle was expanded into a residential castle. Visitors can still feel this today in the inviting friendliness of the building. The castle, which has been documented as early as the 13th century and has been owned by the Bardeau family since 1871, presents itself without any barriers.

By the way: The castle owner, Consul Mag. Andreas Graf von Bardeau, offers castle tours, during which he personally guides guests through the private rooms of the castle. Upon request, there is a subsequent reception with a champagne talk.

Thanks to the family's commitment, the estate has not sunk into a Sleeping Beauty slumber. Behind the centuries-old walls with bright, illuminated windows, much is happening, and there is a lot for us to see. For example, unusual symbioses open up to the visitor's eye: exotic trees, lovingly planted over a hundred years ago, grow in the castle garden side by side with native trees and plants. In the summer months, the castle courtyard and vaulted rooms transform into oases of valuable carpet art. The exhibition by Rohani exudes an almost oriental flair.

Concerts, weddings, exhibitions, and various events bring life into the venerable walls throughout the year. The castle inn also shows its guests how ingeniously regional cooking can be. The delicious scent of mulled wine and baked apples fills the beautiful Renaissance courtyard in early November. The artisanal Christmas exhibition held here every year has developed into one of the most beautiful pre-Christmas institutions in Styria.

Even in the castle courtyard, one encounters the scent of pre-Christmas delicacies. In the heated vaults of the castle gallery, over 100 selected artisans from all over Austria showcase the products of their craftsmanship in the fields of floral art, fashion jewelry, ceramics, and glass. For parents with small children, there will once again be artistic living workshops during Advent.

The knight’s feasts are much livelier, louder, and heartier. By candlelight and torchlight, one can experience the life of the knights up close and feast like centuries ago. Beer and wine, not quite as sour as back then, are served in earthen jugs, while maids and servants bring out the food. And then one can indulge in delicacies like hocks and ribs, sausages and sauerkraut, venison and pheasant.

Exhibition "The Little World of the Great Castles"

At the castle driveway, in the Meierhof of Kornberg Castle, the permanent exhibition "The Little World of the Great Castles" can be visited. 15 models and 2 historical battles will immerse you in a unique miniature world. The castles are constructed to scale 1:75 and 1:100, with astonishing accuracy in replicating the smallest details of architecture, decor, and landscape.
Special lighting effects allow views by day, night, and at dawn. The illumination of the castles offers a fascinating spectacle.

Opening hours:
Castle tours are available every Wednesday to Sunday at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Group inquiries can be made at any time. Reservations are absolutely required.
