Fruit and fruit refinement
The fruit farm of the Haas family in Poppendorf near Gnas has been in founded in 1965. Since then, fruit has been grown and processed on the farm. Before that, the small farm was run as a sideline business. Initially, fruit was mainly grown for wholesale, but when Karl and Roswitha Haas took over the farm in 1986, fruit processing and direct marketing came to the fore.
In the meantime, most of the fruit is processed into a wide variety of fruit juices, single-variety apple musts, frizzante, apple cider, noble brandies and vinegar. Also a small apiary is operated. Recently, the specialties from the orchard and regional partner farms can be enjoyed in the form of a picnic breakfast in the orchard.
In recent years, the focus has been on the development of apple cider. What has been taken for granted in the development of wine for decades, has only been practiced in the case of cider for a few years by a few innovative fruit growers - like the Haas family. The result is cider that brings the typicality of the apple to the fore. Also old - particularly g'schmackige - apple varieties are not forgotten, so also Maschanzker, Kronzprinz Rudolf and the Ilzer Rosenapfel can be tasted in liquid form.
In 2014, the farm was converted to organic farming. Since 2017, the harvest is now also certified organic.
Celebrations at the Haas family's Hofberg
The Haas family's fruit vineyard is also a particularly good place to celebrate. 70-80 people can be accommodated here - on sunny days you can enjoy a magnificent view over Gnas from the terrace. Thus, birthday parties, baptisms, anniversaries and weddings take place here. A special recommendation is the brunch - for dates, simply check online at www.obstbauhaas.at.
