This beautiful square in the center of the market town of Markt Hartmannsdorf was opened in September 2004. It offers space for culture, recreation, coziness as well as spacious parking areas. Two fountains are the eye-catchers. One is a fountain containing the black king and the white queen of the royal game of chess and the other is the “Peter Simonischek Literature Fountain”.
The castle actor and long-time “Jedermann” actor Prof. Peter Simonischek spent his childhood in Markt Hartmannsdorf. His attachment to his home town prompted the market town to make him an honorary citizen and install the “Peter Simonischek literary fountain” as part of the redesign of the village square. Instead of water, literature gushes out of this literary fountain - as the name suggests. Peter Simonischek regularly fills this fountain with new works. Since 2010, however, the fountain has also been actively contributing to the creation of new literature. Peter Simonischek and his wife Brigitte Karner have launched the “Wortschatz” literary competition. Here, children, young people and adults can throw their self-written works into the fountain, which are then awarded prizes by a top-class jury.
