For 500 years the Riegersburg parish church has stood proudly at the foot of the 200 meter high basalt cone.
The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Martin in Riegersburg stands on the right at the beginning of the ascent path to Riegersburg Castle. Hardly any other church can literally be called a house on the rock in the sense of Jesus, since it was built from the basalt tuff quarried on site.
The parish church presents itself as a special jewel, which has grown organically over centuries. The church itself was built in two stages in the late Gothic style, the furnishings are mainly from the Baroque and Renaissance periods.
