dornfountain Fürstenfeld
FürstenfeldThe Dornbrunnen is located at the western end of the main street at the level of the Sutter House.
Until the early 19th century, there was an urban horse trough at this location, also known as a horse wash. The size of the trough would have corresponded to today's basin.
Additional public horse troughs existed in the Hungarian suburb and also in the Graz suburb. Strong wooden railings were always located next to the troughs, with iron rings mounted on the front to tie up the horses.
This fountain was constructed according to the plans of the renowned architect Prof. Boris Podrecca in the years 1995/1996. The water emerged over 7 spikes and disappeared through grates into an invisible basin.
As part of the redesign of the main street in 2002, a modification was also carried out according to the plans of the Rauer office. The fountain received an open water surface, whose edging is terraced, similar to a moat. Additionally, seating options in the form of benches were integrated into the enclosure of the basin.
