village tour, Pernegg an der Mur

Open
This easy-to-walk route leads through the districts of Kirchdorf and Pernegg and is ideal in combination with a stop at the excellent local innkeepers.

The municipality of Pernegg is located directly on the Mur, 10 km south of Bruck an der Mur and 40 km north of Graz. Pernegg is part of the Mur cycle path R2 and the Drachentour mountain bike route and is therefore a mecca for cyclists. With the Pernegg and Mixnitz train stations on the southern railway line, the community of Pernegg is the gateway to the Almenland.

The first human traces were found around 50,000 years ago in the Dragon Cave near Mixnitz. In 1103, “Gerhoch de Trevesse” (Traföß) was first mentioned in a document as the oldest owner of the Pernegg area. In 1130 the parish church in Kirchdorf, the Maximilian Church, was mentioned in a document, and in 1439 the first small Frauenkirche was built in Pernegg.

Pernegg has a vibrant economic life with many commercial and commercial businesses, as well as the Autstrian Hydro Power AG hydroelectric power plant including a display turbine.

  • Starting from the “Steirerbusserl” cafe, we walk past the municipal office towards the outdoor swimming pool.
  • Now we can already see the display turbine, which can be viewed through the glass structure.
  • When crossing the Mur we can, with a bit of luck, observe the Pernegg swans.
  • Pass the “Ritschi” inn and walk over the large Mur bridge back to Kirchdorf to the “Steirerbusserl” cafe.
