Weinbergweg - Vineyard path

A romantic hike with a magnificent panoramic view over the vineyards awaits. Let the sayings on the benches cheer you up and refresh your legs in the Kneipp basin.
Bad Gams is the only spa town in Western Styria and it is located in the middle of the home of the Schilcher. From here you start on a unique hike that leads through the area's gently romantic hilly landscape.

You start on the Schilcher Wine Road, so you should take the chance to taste an eighth of the rosé-coloured grape juice. In addition to the beautiful vineyards that you walk through, a highlight of this tour are the beautiful typical West Styrian farmhouses with their unique flower decorations.

Besides wine, water also plays a special role in this region. In Bad Gams you have the opportunity to taste the healing water from the ferruginous spring and a Kneipp round in the forest is also a fixed point of this hike.

The lovingly designed resting place "Peter`s Brünn`l" with the smallest Schilcherkeller in Western Styria is a special insider tip. From there you have a wonderful panoramic view of Schilcherland.

In Stainz leave the B76 at the JET petrol station at the first exit from the roundabout, turn left at the crossroads to Bad Gams. A9 is subject to toll - Gleinalmtunnel. Alternative: at St. Michael take the S6 towards Bruck and in Bruck take the S35 towards Graz.

From the west: In Villach take the A2 towards Klagenfurt. Exit at Steinberg and drive towards Stainz, from there along the B76 towards Deutschlandsberg. In Stainz leave the B76 at the JET petrol station at the first exit from the roundabout, turn left at the crossroads to Bad Gams.

From the east: A2: Vienna - Aspang - Hartberg - Fürstenfeld - Graz. From Graz continue on the A2 in the direction of Klagenfurt and take the Lieboch exit in the direction of Stainz/Deutschlandsberg/Eibiswald. Follow the B76 to Deutschlandsberg. In Stainz leave the B76 at the JET petrol station at the first exit from the roundabout, turn left at the crossroads to Bad Gams.

From the south: A1 from Marburg to Leibnitz. Exit in Leibnitz (Gralla) and continue on the B74 in the direction of Deutschlandsberg (Heimschuh - Gleinstätten - St.Martin - Deutschlandsberg). Pass the LKH Deutschlandsberg, at each of the four roundabouts take the second exit in the direction of Stainz-Graz. After the fourth roundabout on the B76, take the turning lane to the left in the direction of Bad Gams.

You start your hike in the beautiful spa gardens of Bad Gams. A sea of flowers awaits you here at the start. Take a little time beforehand to admire the lovingly designed park of the spa. From here you walk a short distance along the Schilcherweinstraße.

One of the numerous wine taverns offers the opportunity to fortify yourself and taste the specialities of the Schilcherland. A Brettljause (snack) provides the necessary energy for the six-kilometre hike.

Afterwards you hike along a mountain ridge towards the Posch drinking fountain and then march downhill in the Vochera forest via the Karlsstiege to the lowest point of the vineyard trail. Continue to the Schilcherweinstraße, where after about 100 metres you turn left along the stream to a small wooden footbridge. After the wooden footbridge, walk uphill through a forest, across flower meadows and a scattered fruit orchard - towards the road. Enjoy the peace and quiet in the forest or pick a bouquet of flowers for your loved one. There is plenty to do in the forest, especially for children. There must always be time for a quick game of hide and seek.

Walk at a leisurely pace up the winding municipal road to the lovingly designed rest area "Peter`s Brünn`l". Here you will find the smallest Schilcherkeller in Western Styria. Treat yourself to a bottle of the rosé-coloured wine, which proudly bears the White Horse on its label. From here you have a magnificent panoramic view of Schilcherland. So toast to one of the most beautiful places in Styria. Perhaps you will use one of the benches along the way to amuse yourself with the funny sayings you find on them.

With renewed energy and good humour, you continue through the idyllic hilly landscape of Schilcherland. After about 100 metres, you then turn left along a wonderful forest path to the Pölliberg chapel.

You have then reached the highest point of the vineyard trail at 600 metres above sea level. Now you have to cross the southern slope to reach the Kneipp station in the forest. Be sure to take advantage of this rare opportunity. Get out of your hiking boots and into the cool water. Your circulation and tired legs will thank you. Refreshment in the middle of the forest is a unique experience.

Full of verve and with refreshed calves, continue along the forest path and the municipal road to the next drinking point at the Rupert Peter winery. Here you should enjoy another fresh sip of water. Then follow the road downhill through vineyards that shine in colourful autumn colours to the vineyard guardhouse.

Do not hesitate to climb the wooden lookout tower. The unique view over the Schilcherland will be your reward. The top is also the ideal place to enjoy a snack or a glass of wine. You should also take out your camera for a souvenir photo.

As soon as you can tear yourself away from this sight, continue downhill to the Schilcherweinstraße, which leads you to the centre of Bad Gams. Then you pass the parish church on the right and thus return to the starting point, the spa park.

Here it is time to relax and chat comfortably about what you have experienced.

Kneipp in the forest: What better way to freshen up tired hikers' legs than a round in the Kneipp pool? On this tour you can enjoy that in the middle of the forest.
