Almmuseum Ardning

Ardning

In an idyllic location against the backdrop of the Bosruck Mountains, the Pfarrer- or Prentlhütte is situated at 1087 m above sea level. The wooden house with its characteristic turret above the Lab'n possibly dates back to the 17th century and belongs to the Admont Monastery. It serves as a base hut for the Ardning Mountain and Nature Watch.

About 35 years ago, members began collecting alpine pasture equipment and gathering it in this Prentlhütte. Today, there are a considerable number of haymaking tools, butter and cheese-making utensils, as well as bells and traditional objects. In addition, the Prentlhütte as a building is a kind of living museum.

From the anteroom you enter the parlour on the right. Opposite, clearly visible on the doorframe, is the smokehouse, whose brick hearth is still regularly heated with an open fire until the smoke rises through the door, up the open anteroom and past the Prentl bell in the tower into the open air. The hut and its furnishings seem to have merged into a museum that illustrates the former life on the mountain pasture. The Alpine Museum can be reached on foot in just twenty minutes from the Ardning Alm, which can be reached by car.
