Can you imagine that up to 217 million litres of Styrian water are transported to Vienna every day?

Can you imagine that up to 217 million litres of Styrian water are transported to Vienna every day?

No, but you can know that one of the largest sources of drinking water in Europe bubbles up between Mariazell and Wildalpen. Drinking water is precious and therefore you can't just walk around the spring.

The Kläffer springs (approx. 14 km from Wildalpen in the direction of Mariazell) in the Styrian Salzatal offer a little insight behind the scenes of the drinking water supply. The outlets of the springs are located about 90 m inside the mountain, directly at the main gallery and can be reached through an access tunnel. At times of particularly strong snowmelt and after heavy rainfall, beautiful waterfalls up to 70 m high rise on the left bank of the Salza in the area of the Kläfferquellen springs over a length of 300 m.
