In the middle of the National Park at the junction to Johnsbach is a true oasis in the middle of the wilderness: the Weidendom adventure centre has taken up residence there.
The living construction (m)ark in the national park is beautiful to look at, and the activities on offer in the adventure centre are quite something. For the active ones, there are a few themed trails on the map. The wet Lettmaier Au is lined with adventure stations, the Rauchbodenweg gives a nice overview of the Enns and Gesäuse mountains, the Leierweg is completely barrier-free and on the children's map is the Wilder John legend trail, which follows the Johnsbach and tells the story of the hero of the same name.
Little animals in the big time
Curious visitors can stick their noses deep into the world of the microcosm. After securing a handful of soil or a bit of water from the pond, what is found is examined and the mini-protagonists are dragged into the micro-theatre. Here, millipedes or water bugs are put under the microscope. In the process, they learn all kinds of interesting facts.
There's something going on
The world's first walk-through ecological footprint is actually a labyrinth where you can learn a lot about the environment and how to deal with it. It was awarded the Austrian Climate Protection Prize in 2012. And entertainment is provided by many events in the summer, including "Cinema in the Willow Dome".
