Leobner

One of the classic ski tours in the rear Johnsbachtal. Via the Grössingeralm and through the Sautrog, the trail leads up to the Leobner The view and the descent are super!
Whether you start the season with this ski tour, finish it or do it in between, it pays off every time. Many people know this, which is why you will rarely be alone. The positive thing about this fact is that you will always find a clearly visible trail and a variety of downhill, uphill and extension options. The classic route described here leads over the alpine pastures of the unmanaged Grössingeralm, through the famous Sautrog (a steep gully that is especially fun on the descent) and over the Leobnertörl  to the summit.

More information

A9 Phyrnautobahn to exit Ardning/Admont and from there past Frauenberg, approx. 10 km to Admont. Via the B146 (Gesäuse Bundesstraße) from the west into the Gesäuse.

Or via Leoben, Vordernberg and Eisenerz to Hieflau and from there via B146 in a westerly direction into the Gesäuse.

A1 Westautobahn to exit Ybbs and from there south through Scheibbs, Lunz am See, Göstling an der Ybbs and Palfau to Hieflau. From there take the B146 in a westerly direction to the Gesäuse.

In the National Park there is only one intersection worth mentioning, namely the one into the Johnsbachtal (coming from Admont after approx. 11 km and coming from Hieflau after approx. 15 km). Follow this road (L743) about 10 km into the valley. Go through Johnsbach past the famous Kölbwirt inn until you reach the Zeiringeralm car park (with information boards) at the end of the road on the left after the Ebnerklamm car park.

The tour begins at the car park of the Zeiringeralm (Johnsbacher Almenrunde), where the information boards clearly present the upcoming tour. From the car park, follow the forest road in a southerly direction. Past the signposted turn-off to the Zeiringeralm, which is soon after the car park, the ascent track leads along the snow-covered forest road along the Johnsbach to the crossroads shortly before the Grössingeralm. Here you continue south and soon reach the open alpine pasture, where you can already see the downhill tracks of the other ski tourers in the deep snow. At the southern end of the alpine pasture, the terrain becomes steeper and you reach the beginning of the Sautrog, a gully about one kilometre long, where you have to climb about 400 metres in altitude. At the top you will find yourself at the Leobnertörl (1739 m), a saddle with great views of the Niedere Tauern. From here, the trail leads along the Leobner Wall in a westerly direction into the Leobnerkar, where you then go up to the Leobner with more or less hairpin bends over the eastern summit slope, depending on the route. For the descent from the summit you can either choose the ascent route, or you descend directly into the cirque and come back to the ascent track at Leobnertörl. The descent follows through the Sautrog in any case.
At the starting points of the NP ski tours there are devices to check the function of your avalanche transceiver!

There are also information boards and flyers with the exact route description at the starting points!
