Through the centre of Wildalpen, after the church, we turn left and cross the Salza. Continue to Hopfgarten, always keeping left, past Astrid's Jausenstation and through the aqueduct of the Wiener Hochwasserleitung. At the Krumpenalm junction, the "Genießer MTB Strecke" is beautifully signposted.
A forest road (gravel) now leads to the lovely, unspoilt, gentle Krumpenalm, the route continues steeper uphill and you can enjoy the view of the Riegerin, Grießstein, Ebenstein on the Hochschwab mountains and also the Kräuterin in the Ybbstaler Alps.
Having reached about the highest point at the Klammsattel, the road now leads long and slightly downhill to the Abbrenn. Here you get a glimpse of the last remaining primeval forest and the views fall into the protected area of the Dürrenstein Wilderness Area. You reach a quite traditional and original forester's lodge, in a very rustic area.
A few more bends along the forest road and you end up very remotely at the junction in the Schneckengraben.
Further downhill past the barrier, stay left (do not go to Klaus) towards the valley until you can turn left back to Wildalpen via the Hühnermauer. We close the circle at the Krumpen junction where we joined the MTB route and ride back out of the valley towards Wildalpen.
