Hartberg, HERZ recreation center

Start at the car park of the Hartberg recreation centre (HERZ). Pass the Edelweisshalle on the left in the direction of the Bundesschulzentrum (federal school centre) and take a break at the Stadionhütterl (stadium hut) before passing the stadium to the Protestant church. Follow the blue-white markings to the Red Cross Chapel. It is worth taking a look inside. After crossing the road, follow the markings through the Angersiedlung to the B 54 (hiking trail no. 15 to Grafendorf), which you cross at the Bayer garden centre (traffic lights). Continue to Raimund Obendraufstrasse towards the city centre and soon branch off to the Bäckerkreuz. This is where the Hartberger Höhenweg and Sonnenweg uphill trails begin, until a narrow path leads over the Brückerl (a small piece of primeval nature!) to the highest point of the hike. A bench invites you to linger and enjoy the view of St. Johann, Altenberg Schölbing, Habersdorf and the eastern part of Ungarvorstadt as well as the city of Hartberg.

Continue to the branches of trail number 16 to Staudach and the ascent to the Ringwarte. Shortly afterwards we reach the Tunner Cross with a stone corpus and next to it a bench offering a view of the steeple of the city parish church, as well as the church of Maria Lebing. Continue through the mountain park into Weinberggasse, past the Stepankreuz, into Brühlgasse and past the Radl and Poschmühle mills. Here the paths to Pöllauberg and the long-distance hiking trail 907 branch off, as does the ascent to the Ringwarte through the Brühl. There, turn left into the hollow path and into the lower Brühlgasse, where above a road (in the ditch below) a footpath offers wonderful views of the monastery and town parish church and leads us into Grazerstraße. After a short stretch in Grazerstraße, at Hansi's Bierstube, we now descend Johann Zechnergasse under the Wechselbundesstrasse B 54 and along Augasse to the tennis courts. Between the tennis courts and the tennis hall we come to the edge of the Hartberger Gmoos and back to our starting point.

Numerous places to stop for refreshments (Herz Restaurant, Stadion Hütterl, Schnitzelwirt, Bar & Co, Buschenschank Pußwald, Restaurant Pußwald, Hansis Bierstube, Tennisplatz Büffet) are located along the route.
