Hike to the Simonywarte

A high-altitude hike with steep ascents and descents through shady forest with beautiful viewpoints.
The lookout was built in honor of the great geographer and "Dachstein explorer" Friedrich Simony (1813-1896) on this magnificent vantage point. Simony's name is associated with numerous prominent mountains. Unique is the shelter of the explorer F. Simony on the Dachstein, called "Hotel Simony". Near it, the well-known "Simony Hut" was later built on the edge of the ice field. Eisfeld was the original name for glaciers.

It is best to plan the journey to Bad Mitterndorf with
google.at/maps.
The hike begins in the center of Bad Mitterndorf. Opposite the church, take the narrow street between NKD and the Reisinger bakery. After about 250 meters, a road bends to the right, past the Alpenbad to the north. Following the road, you come to the hiking trail branching off to the left to the Simonywarte. After a steep climb, you reach the viewpoint after about one kilometer. A well-deserved rest is rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view.
The circular trail leads around one kilometer in a north-easterly direction and then descends steeply to the south to the "Grasnerhalt". Cross the Tauplitzalm Alpine road and continue along a forest road. After about 1.5 kilometers you reach the toll station of the Tauplitzalm Alpine Road. Keep right here. After about one kilometer, along the village road, you will reach the starting point.
Free
parking is available at the Grimminghalle. From there it is a five-minute walk to the starting point of the hike. Walk past the schools in the direction of the church. There the hiking trail already begins.

Fair in the early morning, later variable with frequent showers.
Rain and rain showers will end around noon. Dry with a chance of sunny spells afterwards.
