It's just as well that it knows how to keep its visitors: with a hiking trail network of over 500 kilometers and one of the highest densities of mountain huts in the Eastern Alps, there's more than one reason to stay in the Styrian wilderness for several days at once. From hut to hut
The Gesäuse Hüttenrunde leads in a large loop through the Gesäuse National Park and sets its scenic trademark "wild water & steep rock" almost breathtakingly in scene. Its ascent is technically moderate (red marked mountain trails), but requires a certain amount of endurance and experience and can be placed a little above those of its famous neighbor, the Luchs Trail, in terms of overall requirements (especially because no luggage transport can be offered on the Hüttenrunde - even if the pure walking times are a little shorter than on the Luchs Trail). Whether in one piece - that's seven daily stages - or in several sections, the Gesäuse Hüttenrunde will open up to you the unique magic of the mountain landscape in the National Park with the deceleration and inner peace necessary for long-distance hikers.
