The church of St. John in Slices was first mentioned in a document in 1203, but its origin is much earlier.
In its current appearance, the church in Scheiben is a late Gothic building from around 1530, which completely replaced the previous and probably dilapidated building. The tower is attached to the south of the nave and was raised in 1779 and provided with Baroque sound windows and a Baroque dome with onion. The most valuable work of art in the church is the late Gothic winged altar, which shows essential features of the Villach carving art of that time.
