In the Benedictine Abbey of Seckau's own distillery, located in Upper Styria near Knittelfeld, high-quality brandies and liqueurs are produced, which have already won several awards throughout Austria.
Since September 1994, the distillery of the Benedictine Abbey of Seckau, located in Upper Styria near Knittelfeld, has been producing high-quality brandies and liqueurs, which have already won several awards throughout Austria (Destillata, A la carte, Landesedelbrandbewertung, ...). As a quasi-laity, the abbey began to look into the subject of "schnapps distilling" at the end of 1993 and set up a business in the cellar of the west wing. At that time, almost a year was spent preparing for this, attending courses and training sessions and studying specialist literature. There are constantly new insights into the refinement of the production process, which the abbey's employees are also allowed to learn about in further training events organised by the equipment manufacturers, at trade fairs, etc.
This knowledge about the production of high quality brandies has been passed on in seminars since 1996. The Abbey has been able to provide more than 1.500 distillers and other interested people, as well as students of agricultural colleges, with a good theoretical and practical basis in the special ambience of the Abbey or the Hofwirts. - Not to forget those visitors who have gained insights into this spiritual world during a guided tour and tasting in the cellar. The products can also be purchased in the monastery's own shop.
