A culinary cycle tour from the mountain giants of the Hohe Tauern National Park to the hot springs. Parallel to Austria's second largest river, the 453 km long Mur Cycle Path winds its way from the Hohe Tauern National Park through the whole of Styria to finally cross the north-east of Slovenia and Croatia on the last 94 km or so.
Each of the landscapes that pass by the Mura cyclist has its own special charm. Charming historic towns are visited as well as a national park, nature parks. Natura 2000 protected areas and two UNESCO biosphere parks.
Stopovers include cultural and - how could it be otherwise in Styria - culinary destinations where regional products can be tasted and enjoyed.
From the Hohe Tauern National Park....
In the first section you cycle between the mountains, alpine pastures and shady forests of the Hohe Tauern. Between river meadows and in gorges, the Green Heart, Austria's most densely wooded and thus greenest province, spreads out its resilience. These landscapes are ideal for hiking, cycling, climbing and exploring ... or simply for contemplating. Culinary delights from forests, meadows and rivers, prepared by hosts who pamper their guests' palates with their love of nature and regional products.
Spielberg - this is where "deceleration meets acceleration" - "Nimms Radl" is the motto here: those who cycle here can explore around 350 km of cycle routes on their own network of paths - whether leisurely as on the Mur cycle path or challenging in the surrounding mountains.
The pleasure & culture capital
As Austria's Capital of Pleasure, UNESCO World Heritage Site and City of Design, Graz forms a lively link between the mountainous charm of Upper Styria and the Mediterranean flair of the south. Graz's architecture, which ranges from medieval to modern, and its culinary offerings, which range from gourmet cuisine to home cooking, are a wonderful complement to the lush nature experiences along the second stage.
From the wine hills & hot springs
The delicatessen of Austria - Styria is the most fertile province, producing delicacies of great quality and variety. Vineyards, hot springs, pumpkin fields and fruit orchards paint the picture of the Mur Cycle Path of Southern Styria and the Thermal and Volcanic Land, accompanied by the mild climate and an impressive network of cycle paths.
