The borderline genius
The varied ascent leads through dense forests and across wide alpine meadows, accompanied by impressive views of the surrounding peaks. Once you reach the Speikkogel, a breathtaking panorama awaits you, which more than rewards the effort of the ascent and allows you to look far over the edge of the Mur Valley. This hike not only offers enjoyment of nature, but also the opportunity to immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the mountains away from everyday life - a perfect excursion for anyone looking to slow down.
This hike takes us from the Stanglhütte in the Gleingraben to the Speikkogel and offers a variety of landscapes, from dense forests to wide alpine meadows. We start our hike at the Stanglhütte in Gleingraben. First we follow a wide forest path that leads us into the valley towards Gleinalmsattel. After around 2.5 to 3 hours, we reach the Gleinalm refuge, where we can take a well-earned break. Here we have a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. From the refuge, we continue along the southern ridge. The ascent to the Speikkogel is challenging, as we have to overcome several hills before we finally reach the summit cross. However, the effort is rewarded by the breathtaking view. We then make our way back to the Stanglhütte along the same route.
