4 Mountaintour - Soboth - Weinebene - Pack - Gaberl
The tour over the Soboth, the Styrian Wine Road, the Pack and the Gaberl in the
adventure region murtal are the mountains we "experience" here. The winding route and the alternation between the hilly western Styria and the mountainous upper Styria is the special thing about this tour.
We start from Spielberg via Weißkirchen and Eppenstein in the
adventure region murtal - here we see the ruins of Eppenstein Castle on the right, which rises above the Mur valley. We continue via Obdach in the direction of Carinthia. We continue to Reichenfels to Bad St. Leonhard - shortly after Wiesenau there would be the possibility to take a shortcut in the direction of Pack. But for us it goes on to Frantschach, until Wolfsberg. From here we go on to St. Georgen im Lavanttal.
The tour continues to Lavamünd where we stay east and reach Soboth. This route is one of the most popular between Carinthia and Styria and therefore we share the route with many other motorcyclists. The first part offers us narrow, charming curves while we let the Styrian side take us down a long curve. On hot summer days the Soboth reservoir is a good place to go.
From Eibiswald we ride towards Schwanberg - here we could take a shortcut towards the wine plain. But we drive over Deutschlandsberg and Trahhütten over the wine plain. The pass on the Koralm is at an altitude of 1.688m and the winding road takes us back to St. Gertraud.
We already know this part of the route, but don't worry, after a few kilometers we turn off towards Pack. The first part is more curvy and narrower, and the ascent is steeper, after that the route becomes more extensive.
We are already looking forward to the next stops - Köflach is a particularly good place to take a short break and maybe even visit the thermal baths. Maybe you will also have time to make a detour to the Lipizzaner Stud Piber, which is only a few kilometers away and where you can visit the breeding of the world-famous horses.
Now we continue towards Gaberl - after Salla the curves become tighter again and we are looking forward to the stop at the pass summit at 1.551m - now it's downhill towards Murtal. Where we drive via Kleinlobming back to Spielberg.
