To the Lindersee in the Seetal Alps.

A snowshoe hike on the eastern side of the Seetaler Alps in the Murtal adventure region with a view of the Zirbitzkogel.
With this hike you get to know the high alpine character of the Seetaler Alps in the adventure region Murtal, although you are on technically easy trails up to the Lindersee. The imposing backdrop of the eastern side of the Seetaler Alps and the unobstructed view of the Zirbitzkogel Schutzhaus at 2376 m above sea level accompany us almost throughout the entire hike. Orientation is relatively easy, as you can stick to the ski tour ascent trail to the Zirbitzkogel, which is partly marked with snow poles. The first part of the trail leads moderately uphill to the Linderhütte, which allows you to warm up your body well before the steeper section begins. The extensive cirque landscape, with the embedded Linder lake, is a worthwhile destination. Even though the Zirbitzkogel seems within reach at the Lindersee, the steep ascent with snowshoes is not recommended. A very nice variant to hike with snowshoes to the Zirbitzkogel is away from the Waldheimhütte or via the Rothaidenhütte.

By car to snowshoe hiking - a few things to watch out for!

Good winter tires are an absolute MUST!Ice scraper, snow broom, de-icer for the door locks and a small shovel belong to the basic equipment.Put snow chains and a tow rope in the car, even if you are not good with them yourself. Helping and knowledgeable hikers are always available on the mountain!Clear the car completely of snow and ice, especially sweep off the roof of the car completely. When parking, make sure you leave room for other motorists.Always park so that the rest of the roadway remains clear for cars, logging trucks, and snow removal vehicles.Find out about the snow situation on the access road or parking facilities before setting off. (hut host, webcams)

At the parking lot of the Alpengasthof Sabathy (1), 1620 m, we can first get a good overview of the hiking area on a hiking board. Passing the nearby Herz-Jesu chapel, we keep going in the direction of Lindertal (Zirbitzkogel-Lindertalweg 316). The forest path is slightly ascending and runs continuously in the forest until the Linderhütte. At the Linderhütte (2), 1730 m, we leave the forest road, walk away to the right and follow the direction of the signpost to the Zirbitzkogel. From now on we are on the path of the summer hiking trail, which is also easily recognizable in winter by the red-white-red markings on the trees. The ski touring ascent track also serves as an orientation aid, as numerous ski tourers are on their way to the Zirbitzkogel on this trail. Now it goes in between a little steeper uphill through the forest, until we then enter the flatter combat zone at over 1800 m above sea level. The view of the Zirbitzkogel shelter now accompanies us continuously. The wide cirque landscape around the Lindersee with the surrounding ridges and peaks looks imposing, so that from now on we can really immerse ourselves in the alpine mountain landscape of the Seetal Alps. The path now leads along the snow poles across the open spaces to Lindersee (3), 2051m. We take a break in the safe shore area of the Lindersee before hiking back along the ascent route.
If you like to hike the Zirbitzkogel with snowshoes, you should choose the way via the Rothaidenhütte (tour 13 in the Rother SSF Styria) or start from the Waldheimhütte at all.
There is no public transport connection to the starting point of the tour itself.
