More information

Coming from Judenburg via Unzmarkt to Scheifling. In Scheifling always go straight to Neumarkt. In Neumarkt turn left towards Mühlen. The road leads directly through the forest to the Tonnerhütte.

Coming from Tamsweg via Ranten or Stadl an der Mur, always go straight to Murau. From Murau continue to Teufenbach. In Teufenbach keep right until Neumarkt. In Neumarkt keep left towards Mühlen. The road leads directly through the forest to the Tonnerhütte.

Starting from the Tonner Hütte you can take a drag lift over the Hohe Halt to the Herter Höhe viewing platform. From the mountain station you walk slightly uphill towards the Zirbitz summit. At the signpost next to a striking large stone, the two ascent variants separate via the so-called (SW) gully and the ascent via the winter markings. This turns from this prominent point, a large exposed stone, to the E and after just a few 100 m leads directly into the SW gully, in which you climb steadily until just before the summit. Approximately 50 m below the summit, you cross the steeper terrain in a northerly direction to the Mühlner Sattel, north of the summit. From here it is now possible to climb to the right (SE) directly to the summit of the Zirbitzkogel or to follow the marking poles further east and climb over the Zirbitzkogel refuge.
The refuge on Zirbitzkogel is open during holidays and weekends. It is advisable to find out about the opening times in advance!
