Kapfenberger "Stadtrunde" mit Burg Oberkapfenberg

A circular tour, ideal for families and other pleasure hikers. From Kapfenberg, known for its numerous world market leaders in many areas of high technology, the route leads through extensive forests and across mountain meadows with great views to Oberkapfenberg Castle. The rest of the loop then leads back to Kapfenberg's old town, with culinary rest stops high above the Mürztal valley.
In the far west of the Fischbach Alps, this family-friendly circular trail takes us from the Mürz Valley up to the impressive Oberkapfenberg Castle. There we overlook almost the entire valley of the Mürz River and can relive the history of knights and damsels. In addition, the bird of prey show on the castle plateau delights young and old.

You can then enjoy the two inns at Prieselbauer and Bergerbauer - always with wonderful views of the opposite gentle mountains around the well-known Pogusch.

As a conclusion, of course, a rest at the small fine Kapfenberger main square in the heart of the old town is recommended.

More information

We start in the heart of Kapfenberg's old town (main square) and turn towards the Mürz River. Shortly before we reach the Mürz bridge, a partly quite steep forest path branches off to Oberkapfenberg Castle. Sweaty it goes quickly uphill and we reach after about 45 minutes walk the mighty castle complex. Here we walk in a southeasterly direction, passing the Loretto Chapel standing on a hill, until we reach a road junction (saddle, some residential houses).

Here begins the marked hiking trail to Prieselbauer. Initially a wide forest road, this soon becomes a scenic hiking trail. Now the trail continues along the slope on wide paths and only gently ascending in the direction of Bergerbauer. Finally, hiking somewhat downhill, we reach this and turn there - of course after a rest - to the northwest. Always downhill, the large Kapfenberg sports center in front of us, we soon stand on the Mürztalradweg R5, which is also often used as a walking path.

We do exactly the same and walk past the soccer stadium back to the starting point in the center of Kapfenberg.

A visit to the aforementioned Oberkapfenberg Castle, but also a stroll through the old town of Kapfenberg is definitely recommended. In summer there is also an impressive bird of prey show at the castle.
