Zetz Round from St. Kathrein am Offenegg

Open
Varied summit tour on the Hoher Zetz with a great view over Eastern Styria and out to the Pannonian Plain.
From St. Kathrein am Offenegg, the trail first leads along the Vogelbeer-Panoramaweg for a while before heading out over the Bendlerhöhe to the Hoher Zetz. The Zetz is the local mountain of the people of Weiz and is known for its beautiful view of eastern Styria. The way back leads over the Eibisberg and the "Zeil" back to the centre of St. Kathrein.

In and around St. Kathrein, a wealth of places to stop for refreshments and excursions await visitors: taste delicious chocolates in Eveline Wild's chocolate shop, explore Sissy Sichart's Sulamith Garden or uncover the secret of Michael Graf's fine brandies!

St. Kathrein is also a member of the "Styrian Flower Road" and is known for its lush floral decorations. The large Styrian Panther, a work by Almart artist Sascha Exenberger, who makes his imaginative figures out of horseshoes, already greets you at the entrance to the village. Another five figures can be found along the Kathrein hiking trails.

  • We start at the Kathreinerhaus and take the path up to "Kircheben".Turn right and follow trail no. 22/"Vogelbeer-Panoramaweg" up the hill.
  • Follow the "Vogelbeer-Panoramaweg" over the "Schwoaghofer-Teich" to the "Lange Bank".
  • Immediately afterwards, we leave the "Vogelbeer-Weg" and follow the markings "Brandlucken/Schönes Kreuz/Schlaglkreuz" up to the left.
  • From the next junction, keep to the "Eibisberg via Bendler" markings and follow trail no. 23, past the "Schlagkreuz" up to the Bendlerhöhe.
  • On the Bendlerhöhe we pass the "Friends of Nature" house and the mountain rescue station.
  • Now we turn onto trail no. 745/21 and walk out to the Eibisberg. The path to the "Eibisberg refuge" is marked on the right.
  • However, we follow the "Zetz" markings, trail no. 11, and go out to the left as far as the "fire brigade cross".
  • Continue above the forest road, along the somewhat overgrown hiking trail to the "Zetz-Kreuz" (cross with summit book and stone table).
