Schöcklblick Tour, Passail
Open
The tour in the Almenland Nature Park leads from Passail up to Burgstall, always with a great view of the Schöckl. The way back is via the Wöllinggraben - with the possibility of a stop for refreshments!
The
Schöckl is not only the local mountain of Graz, unmistakably enthroned with the transmitter on the large plateau in the south of the
Almenland Nature Park. If you are cycling in the
Passailer Kessel, you will always have it in view! This bike tour takes you up this special mountain - not quite, but high enough to realise that the views in the other direction are also fantastic. The scenery ranges from the
Rote Wand to the Hochlantsch and the Sommeralm, from the Zetz to the Patscha and the Gösser. So persevere on the ascent, the return trip back to the valley compensates for all the effort!
From Passail, the route follows the Raab river to the old mining town of Arzberg, where you can still visit the old silver mine. Arzberg is also the home of Almenland Stollen cheese. Here the Raab also "disappears" into the gorge and forms the Great Raab Gorge between Arzberg and Mortantsch/Weiz. Arzberg is therefore also the starting point and destination for hikes through the Raabklamm gorge.
Immediately after leaving Arzberg, you pass the Stubegg ruins, which unfortunately can no longer be visited today. The village of Burgstall or Burgstaller Höhe is idyllically situated between the Raabklamm and the Schöckl and offers wonderful views of the Passailer Kessel. The rest of the trail leads south - always with a view of the Schöckl.
On the way back, the route descends into Wölling-Graben, where the cosy "Bachwirt" invites you to stop for a bite to eat before returning to Passail via Hart ("Xundgarten") and across the golf course.
The route is asphalted throughout, but quite steep, so we recommend an e-bike for this tour!
