Modriacher Höhenweg
This circular hiking trail shows the different scenic facets of Modriach. Through forest and meadow we even pass a marshy area. Inns invite us to rest and convince with regional delicacies and lovely cordiality.
Hikes through the rucksack villages in the Lipizzaner homeland give us a comprehensive insight into the typical cultural landscape of the region. Wide-stretched meadows characterize the appearance and the scattered farmsteads are surrounded by old fruit tree stands.
The alpine pastures of the rucksack villages offer us hikers and recreation seekers a unique natural spectacle, especially during the alpine bush blossom in June, and are therefore a popular vacation and excursion destination. During the blossoming of the alpine bushes, the vast alpine pastures are transformed into red carpets of color as far as the eye can see. But also at other times of the year nature lovers will find an abundance of rare plant species.
Refuges and alpine inns provide home cooking and regional delicacies for the physical well-being. Here, alpine farming is still alive and an integral part of the people who live here.

Von Wien/Graz bzw. Klagenfurt über Autobahn A2 Abfahrt Modriach.
Der Startpunkt unserer Wanderroute liegt in Modriach. Wir nehmen den Weg Nr. 36 bzw. 569 bis zum Gasthaus Hoiswirt. Nach einer kurzen Rast mit Einkehrschwung bleiben wir auf diesem Weg und wandern über das „Keuschsima-Moos“ hinauf auf das Schrogentor, das auf 1.255m Seehöhe liegt. Von dort marschieren wir links ca. fünf Minuten am Zaun entlang, bis wir zum „Alten Schrogentor“ kommen. Hier folgen wir dem Weg mit der Markierung 36 durch den Durchgang; hier beginnt der Modriacher Höhenweg. Wir kommen an einigen schönen Aussichtspunkten vorbei und gelangen schließlich zum Aiblwirt, der auf 1.251m Seehöhe liegt.
Zurück kommen wir, indem wir der Straße folgen und an der Höhenwegkreuzung vorbeiwandern. Nach kurzer Gehzeit zweigt der Weg Nr. 36 links in den Wald ab. Wir folgen diesem Weg und kommen auf dem Weg hinunter zum Modriachbach an einigen Gehöften vorbei. Wir überqueren den „Kirchsteig“ (= Brücke) und wandern weiter bis zu einer Feuchtstelle, dem „Pfennichbachl“. Nach diesem sumpifgen Gebiete wandern auf dem leicht ansteigenden Weg zur Pfennigkapelle und kommen zur asphaltieren Straße, die uns wieder zurück zu unserem Ausgangspunkt bringt.
Dieser schöne Rundweg verlangt uns Wanderern nicht "Alles" ab. Wir müssen aber damit rechnen, dass einige Stellen schwieriger zu bewältigen sind.
Es stehen ausreichend Parkplätze zur Verfügung.
