Dead Man - No. 4, Wenigzell
A wonderful tour around Wenigzell.
A special tip is the barefoot park. Plan time here for a mushroom or berry hunt.
On a winter hike you can stop off at Schneeland Wenigzell.
The circular trail takes you to the Dead Man. This is how he is said to have got his name:
Legend:At the crossroads of Strallegg, Vorau, Ratten, Miesenbach and Wenigzell, on the old Roman road, there is a small chapel. It is said that a penitent lies beneath this chapel. A long time ago, he and his wife wanted to make a pilgrimage from Hungary to Mariazell on their knees. But on the way, the man fell ill and died in the area. He was buried by compassionate farmers. They later built a small chapel over his grave. There, on the night of 5 to 6 January at midnight, you can talk to the devil if you call his name three times. The wife of the deceased penitent continued on to Mariazell, but she too succumbed to the hardships and died in the Mürz valley near the village of Frein. Since then, the area there has also been called Totes Weib (Dead Woman).

We start at the village square and walk past the barefoot park, the old festival hall, "Florl im Haselbach" and straight ahead into the forest until shortly before the valley station of the ski lift. Now keep left and walk through the forest up to a field, which you cross to the right and reach the car park of the ski lift. Continue left along the Roman road to the "Toten Mann" and the "Bergler Stub'n". Immediately afterwards we walk up the meadow path on the left and along the edge of the forest (here we absolutely must take a short break and enjoy the wonderful view) until shortly before the "Walddörfl". There we go down to the right along the edge of the field, cross the road and follow the second asphalt road to the "Brunnschneider", down to the local history museum and to the starting point at the village square.
Parking possible throughout Wenigzell, best at the old armoury or at the
