GenussCard Tour Pöllauer Tal Nature Park - ApfelLand-Stubenbergsee

The varied tour leads from the Pöllau Valley to Lake Stubenberg and back along vineyards above the lake - past many GenussCard excursion destinations and refreshment stops.
A scenic bike tour takes us from the Pöllauer Tal Nature Park, the realm of the stag pear and the meadow orchards, through the ApfelLand-Stubenbergsee, the largest apple-growing area in Austria, and back again. The total of 38 km could be comfortably completed in three hours, were it not for the many excursion destinations and restaurants...

There are no less than twelve "GenussCard" destinations on this tour...cyclists can enjoy the finest gingerbread, freshly pressed oils or tasty Leberkäse in Pöllau, swim in Lake Stubenberg, play mini-golf and stand-up paddle on the lake and taste wine, whisky or beer along the way...

Guests receive the GenussCard as a free "admission ticket" to more than 200 excursion destinations in Eastern Styria, in the Thermal & Volcanic Region of Styria and in Southern & Western Styria at the GenussCard partner businesses in the Pöllauer Tal Nature Park and in ApfelLand-Stubenbergsee. One card. Three regions. Endless holiday enjoyment!

  • We join the R57/Pöllau cycle path and ride in the direction of Stubenberg/Pöllauberg.
  • We continue along Lamberggasse and pass the Ebner confectionery.
  • We ride out via Freiberg and Safental to Schönaudorf, at the traffic circle we continue straight on in the direction of "St. Stefan/Hofkirchen" and change to the HB18/Saifental cycle path or the garden tour.
  • At the church of St. Stefan, we turn right towards Hofkirchen and now follow HB8/Hofkirchentour.
  • In the village of Neuhof, we turn left downhill and continue along HB8 until the junction up to the Ballonhotel Thaller.
  • We ride past the balloon hotel and the Hofkirchen chapel and turn right at the next junction, heading towards Vockenberg.
  •     At Hofkirchen, we cross the main road and continue along the cycle path towards Schielleiten, where we can already see the baroque castle ahead of us.
  •     However, we cycle around the castle on the cycle path, but pass the wild and romantic ponds of Schielleiten, which are somewhat hidden to our right. It is well worth a detour.
  • At the next junction at a wayside chapel, we turn right downhill towards St. Johann/Herberstein.
  • We now ride down to the main road with a view of the Kulm and cross it.
  •  We now change to the R8/Feistritztal cycle path, which now leads across the parking lot of Tierwelt Herberstein and then out to the right along the cycle path to Stubenbergsee.
  • If you want to avoid the climb up to the "Zeil", you can turn around here and cycle back the same way.
  • The Stubenbergsee is the ideal place for a rest before continuing along the lakeshore up to the "Haus am See" = Stubenbergsee entrance
  • We now ride up HB2/Teichtour to the right, cross the main road again and ride along the footpath up to the lake as far as the crossroads.
  • We turn left and ride through the village of Stubenberg to the junction with the Rabenwald country road.
  • Just a short stretch on the country road and we turn right uphill towards "Vockenberg".
  • The steepest part of the tour (Sauriegelweg!) leads us up to the "Zeil", past wine taverns and with great views of the lake.
  • At the next junction, we leave HB2 and turn left to continue on HB9/Schöneggtour.
  • At the top, at GH Stelzer-Lex, we keep to the right and continue at a more leisurely pace until we reach the ridge.
  • Straight ahead, with a view of the Pöllau valley, we continue along HB9 via Schönegg down to Schönaudorf.
  • There we turn left up onto the R57/Pöllau cycle path and cycle back along the R57 to Pöllau.
