Moonway
The Mondweg is a comfortable circular trail with a few climbs, which leads you from the center of Ratten through forests and along field paths back to the starting point. After about 1 1/2 hours you reach the inn "Dirndlhof". Afterwards, the Keuchgraben leads you back to the village center.
Ratten is located in the Upper Feistritztal at the foot of the Fischbach Alps in Joglland. Brown coal was mined open-cast in Ratten until 1960; the mining museum and the Montanweg are reminders of this time. Today Katzen is an attractive holiday resort with a hiking area between 740 and 1,660 meters above sea level. The Moon Trail starts in the town center and first leads along the Feistritz out of the town, then it goes over a steeper climb to the Kirchenberger homestead and on to the “Dirndlhof” inn with a playground and game reserve. We then return to the town via the Keuchgraben. There are some nice rest areas along the way, the eight panels on the themed trail were elaborately designed by the rat artist Alois Tösch and provide information on the topics: solar eclipse, low tide, high tide, new moon, waxing moon, full moon, waning moon and space travel. The Moon Trail is an easy-to-walk themed trail for the whole family!

Marking: The path is marked throughout with “Moon Path” or blue-yellow stripes. There may be a pasture to cross, please observe the correct behavior with grazing cattle - especially if you are traveling with a dog. Please be sure to check the opening times of the guest establishments BEFORE the hike! Start: Large hiking board on the bike path below the leisure center We start at the hiking board and walk downstream along the Feistritztalradweg/R8. We walk along the residential area on the asphalt path and continue beyond the end of the town along the Feistritztalradweg/R8 and arrive at the first station “Sonnenfinsternis” Shortly before the intersection with the federal road/B72 we turn right up. A small climb then continues out to the left and you now come to the 2nd station “The Tides: Ebb” A little bit in the forest, then we continue to the right, it's now constantly going uphill. We leave the forest and continue up to the left. We now have a beautiful view of the country. Back on the asphalt road, at the next bend we reach the 3rd station “The Tides: Flood”. We now walk through the “Kirchenberger” farm and turn left uphill immediately after the stable. There is now a pasture in front of us, we may have to open the gate, then please close it again! The section of the path across the meadow now offers us very beautiful views. Back in the forest it continues slightly downhill.
Make sure we don't miss the turnoff to the right! Here we have now reached the 4th station “Neumond” and turn sharp right up into the forest. At the intersection we continue straight ahead and come to the 5th station “Waxing Moon”. At the top of the intersection we continue straight ahead on the middle path. We leave the forest and turn left in front of the house along the asphalt path. We now come to the beautiful “Dirndlhof” of the Steiner family with the 6th station “Full Moon”. In front of the house we turn right onto the street. At the crossroads we turn right towards “Ratten”. After a short stretch on the road we turn left down into the forest. We are already on the way back and are therefore going downhill. We cross a forest path twice and continue straight along the path. Now we are at the 7th station “The Waning Moon” Always in the forest there is a steep descent for rats. Shortly before the asphalt road we come to the 8th station “The Space Travel” When we arrive at the stream, we continue to the right into the town. Before the main school we turn right and then continue immediately left along the footpath and now come straight back to the starting point at the hiking board.
On this path you will learn a lot of interesting facts about the moon on the basis of 8 artistically designed panels!
