long nights of nature parks

Immerse yourself in the nightlife of the nature park!

The night sky over Austria is unique in Europe! A breathtaking natural spectacle that needs to be discovered and preserved. For this reason, the first Austria-wide "Long Night of the Nature Parks" will take place this year on September 6.

In the Pöllauer Tal Nature Park (the 1st Europe-wide living model region), you can experience the darkness from a completely new perspective. A night hike starts at 1000 meters and introduces young and old to the special features of nocturnal animals and sharpens the senses with games. As the crowning finale, a butterfly glow is organized together with biologist Alexander Weihs (Styrian Nature Conservation Association). The focus will be on the winged moths that only become active after dusk, including the Japanese oak silk moth with a wingspan of up to 14 cm or the giants among the moths, the so-called order ribbons. There are just over 200 butterflies and over 3,800 moths known throughout Austria. To observe the moths, they are attracted with the help of UV light.
