St. Kathrein am Hauenstein lies in the middle of Peter Rosegger's forest home, where the poet spent his childhood. The Rosegger exhibition commemorates the writer's life. Peter Rosegger's favorite church, as he himself called it, is also located in St. Kathrein am Hauenstein. As a reminder of earlier times, the Christmas mass hike still takes place every year on Christmas Eve.
The village is also the ideal starting point for hikes, for example to Katharinenstein, Hauereck, Pretul or to Rosegger's birthplace.
In winter, the Ski-Waldheimat has a lot to offer. The Hauereck-St. Kathrein am Hauenstein ski area has a total piste length of 5.5 km. 2 T-bar lifts, a 4-seater chairlift and a snowmaking system ensure optimum skiing fun!
