At the Augerl junction (1), 1009 m, keep right and follow the signposts in the direction of Krennsattel / Steinplan. The forest road leads comfortably uphill through the forest, along the stream, past the house vlg. Krennmeister and on to the open meadows around the Krennhütte (2), 1356 m. Pass the picturesque wooden house with green window beams and the stable on the left. The path leads directly through the fence at the stable. Continue uphill for approx. 1 km through the forest until you reach the open alpine pastures of the Krennsattel (3), 1453 m, on the ridge. Now we keep to the right and walk towards Steinplan along the long-distance hiking trail 02. The trail leads gently up and down, alternating between meadows and woodland. We hike comfortably along with great views and enjoy this quiet ascent route to the Steinplan. Shortly before reaching the summit, we walk through the forest until we reach a clearing and follow it uphill to the right. After a short time, we can already see the summit cross. At the Steinplan (4)1670 m, we see the Schutzhaus just a few meters away, a good base for thirsty and hungry hikers and cyclists. The view extends from the Gleinalpe and Stubalpe, the Seetal and Wölzer Alps and the Seckauer Tauern to the Eisenerz Alps and the Hochschwab massif. After a leisurely break, we choose the way back via the ascent route and decide between the Sempre restaurant in the center of Rachau or the "Fuchs und Henne" restaurant right next to the Wipfelwanderweg - so you can end the hike in comfort.
If you prefer to travel by public transport and would like to hike up the Steinplan, you should take a look at the "Steinplan via Papst Pirschling" hike.
The starting point cannot be reached by public transport.
