Discover breathtaking views of the Hochschlag, the Hochlantsch and the Hochshwab on this hike from St. Jakob over the Eibeggsattel to the Hofbaueralm Hut.
The hike begins in the idyllic town of St. Jakob in Breitenau am Hochlantsch and leads to the Eibeggsattel at around 1,000 meters. The path meanders comfortably, surrounded by open spaces and meadows, through shady forests and always offers beautiful views. After the climb you reach the Hofbaueralm hut, where you can enjoy a cozy stop with regional specialties. Here you get a wonderful view of the majestic peaks of Hochlantsch, Hochschwab and Hochschlag. The return route leads over the Dornkogel back to the town center. This route combines scenic diversity, enchanting views and a relaxed atmosphere - a perfect experience for nature and hiking lovers.

More information
- We start in the center of St. Jakob and walk along the Eibeggbach near the church. 1.5 kilometers on an asphalt road
- At the junction "Knollgraben-Eibegg" we keep right, according to the signs "Weg Nr. 719"
- After approx. 200 meters, shortly after the large hall, turn left along the well-signposted forest path towards Eibeggsattel (approx. 1.5 hour walking time)
- There is a parking lot at the Eibeggsattel - the tour can also be started from here. Starting from the parking lot, walk left of the wayside shrine into the forest (marked).
- The path leads through the forest to a meadow, which is crossed along the fence.
- We follow the markings alternating between forest and open spaces
- Shortly before the Aibl you come to a forest road, here you continue past the "Aibl" to the Hofbaueralm hut (walking time approx. 1.5 hours). If you want, you can also go over the "Aibl" (hill with two striking trees) to the hut hike.
- From the Hofbaueralm hut we head back towards “Dorner Kogel”.
- The descent takes place via the marked path through the forest
- Then you reach a forest road, which we follow to the large meadow. Here you get a view of the Breitenau mine.
- We continue walking along the asphalt road back to St. Jakob - town center
If you would like to shorten the tour, you can also drive to the Eibeggsattel car park or take the SAM shared taxi. The hike from the car park to the Hofbaueralm hut and back again takes around 3 hours and covers 7.7 kilometers.
Every year on Pentecost Sunday, the Ebenschlag mass with a traditional celebration by the Breitenau Alpine Club takes place on Ebenschlag at 1 p.m.
