The hike through the wind farm to the Steinriegel is a long-distance hike and offers an enchanting panorama of the Joglland - Waldheimat region.

The tour starts at the Genussgasthof Willenshofer, which is located opposite the valley station of the Ski-Waldheimat Hauereck. Follow the gravel road uphill until you reach the Hauereck mountain hut - perfect for the first short break before continuing. The route now follows the main hiking trail of the Fischbach Alps uphill along the ridge towards Steinriegel. Once you reach the wind farm, it is not far to the tour destination, the Steinriegel summit cross. You return to the starting point via the same route.

The municipality lies in the valley of the Hirschbach, a tributary of the Feistritz, in the Fischbach Alps and is part of Peter Rosegger's Waldheimat. It covers an area of 19.25 square kilometers. Of this, 40 percent is agricultural land and 55 percent is forested.

By car:
From Vienna: via the A2 Südautobahn and the S6 Semmering expressway to the Krieglach exit. From Graz via Weiz and Birkfeld to St. Kathrein am Hauenstein.

The tour starts at the Genussgasthof Willenshofer, which is located opposite the valley station of the Hauereck ski forest home. You walk up along the gravel road until you reach the managed Hauereck refuge - perfect for the first little rest before continuing. The main hiking trail in the Fischbacher Alps now goes comfortably uphill along the mountain ridge towards Steinriegel. Once you have reached the wind farm, it is not far to the tour destination, the summit cross of the Steinriegel. You can get back to the starting point via the same path.

Visit the largest high alpine wind farm in Central Europe. It has 35 turbines and is well worth a stop.
