Preaching chair way, Mixnitz

The Pfarrstuhl is a popular hiking destination in the municipality of Pernegg an der Mur in the Almenland Nature Park.

The hike starts at Pernegg an der Mur train station and goes through the Kirchdorf district to the Pfarrstuhl and back again. Past the parish church, through the shady forest with beautiful viewpoints. At the summit cross at the Pfarrstuhl you get a wonderful view of the Hochlantsch, the valley floor and the Röthelstein.

The hike can also be extended to the Kirchkogel (walking time approx. 1 hour). There are places to stop for refreshments at Café Steirer-Busserl or directly in town at the Ritschi inn. The Frauenkirche right in town is also a popular excursion and pilgrimage destination.

More information

  • We start from Pernegg an der Mur train station in an easterly direction past the Spar market
  • Over the Mur Bridge to Kirchdorf
  • We walk past the Café Steirer-Busserl, after about 200 meters we turn left and follow the signs towards Pfarrstuhl
  • A few meters after the parish church we turn left again (follow the signs)
  • We hike up a forest path and at the next intersection we turn right into the forest
  • We follow the signposts for about 1.5 hours through the forest towards the Pfarrstuhl, the last few meters up to the summit cross are quite steep
  • Once at the top you get a great view of the entire valley. Here you could hike even further up the “Kirchkogel”.
  • The return route takes the same route back to the starting point at Pernegg an der Mur train station

Combine the tour with a visit to the famous Frauenkirche, a beautiful excursion destination and a special place of pilgrimage.
