Steep vineyards and excellent specialities
Wineries and culinary showrooms
The Sausal and thus also the Sausal Wine Trail are known for the steepest vineyards in Styria and their 60-million-year-old slate and primary rock soil, which makes for fresh, fruity and expressive wines. However, the fertile soil not only offers an optimal opportunity for wine to develop, but also for many other specialities. For example, along the Sausal Wine Trail you'll find the largest lavender fields in Styria, which are lovingly tended to by the Wunsum lavender manufactory.
Lavender is processed into more than 120 products for the kitchen, aroma essences, essential oils and spirits directly on the farm. In addition to lavender, the Styrian oil pumpkin also grows and thrives along the Sausal Wine Route, the seeds of which are processed by the local oil millers into traditional Styrian pumpkin seed oil. A day trip to the Sausal Wine Trail is further refined with cheese specialities from the Fischer cheese dairy and Flamberger beer from one of our local breweries.
