The market town of Ilz is located in eastern Styria, directly on the A2 Ilz/Fürstenfeld exit and on the north-south connection Hartberg-Riegersburg. Ilz is the gateway to the Vulkanland and the entrance to the thermal region of Styria. The provincial capital Graz is 42 km away. The municipality has 3,678 inhabitants and covers about 39 km². With about 1,400 jobs, Ilz occupies a top position in the region.
