Experts say that the area around the fountain and St. Augustine's Church is an enormous source of energy and that the water is of a special quality.
According to legend, an old, blind Italian monk lived in Fürstenfeld immediately after the foundation of the Augustinian Hermit Monastery. He washed his eyes daily in the monastery fountain and then went to pray at the image of St. Augustine in the church. Suddenly, the monk is said to have regained his sight. The news of his spontaneous healing spread as far as Italy and Slovenia, whereupon every year on the feast of St. Augustine, on 28 August, many eye sufferers from these regions made pilgrimages to Fürstenfeld.
