At the beginning of the 12th century, the high free Walther von der Traisen moved through eastern Styria. The forests were cleared and a village was founded - "Walthers-Dorf" came into being. In his honor, the "Walther Fountain" is located in the center of Bad Waltersdorf.
At the beginning of the 12th century the Bavarian settlementerk began. The high free Walther von der Traisen moved with his settlers into the country. The forests were cleared and the village was founded as "Walthers" village. In 1170 the village was mentioned for the first time in a document, already as a mother parish with the daughter churches Limbach and Ebersdorf. Walther von der Traisen was also the bailiff of Admont Abbey and the founder of the monastery of St. Andrä an der Traisen. A fountain monument was erected in his honor in the center of the village - "the Walther fountain". The stone sculptor Johann Schweighofer from Pöllauberg created the market fountain, which is crowned by the founder figure and has the shape of an octagon. In the Middle Ages, the village of Waltersdorf had 3 wells, which were specially protected. Even at that time, people knew how to appreciate the precious water of this region.
The fountain can be visited all year round.
