The high-altitude trail takes you from the Joglland trail in St. Jakob im Walde, which has been awarded the Styrian trail quality seal, to the Rabl-Kreuz trail at Hochwechsel.
The high-altitude trail offers a wonderful hiking trail when there is sufficient natural snow and connects the two cross-country skiing areas in the Joglland - Waldheimat region: the Joglland trail in St. Jakob im Walde and the Rabl-Kreuz trails at the foot of the Hochwechsel. There is a place to stop for refreshments both at the starting point of the Joglland trail and at the Rabl-Kreuz trail. This also makes the high-altitude trail a popular tour for cross-country skiers on snow-covered winter days.

More information
- We start the longest loop on the Jogllandloipe in St. Jakob im Walde in the starting area, directly behind Gasthof Orthofer
- From there, we always stick to the red markings of the 10 km trail at first
- As both the 10 km trail and the 25 km high-altitude trail are only suitable for the classic style, we always follow the groomed trail
- After a first short ascent and a first descent, we enter a wooded area after the so-called Blochplatz
- At the Riegler Kohlstatt junction, we continue straight ahead to the Fütterung junction, where we keep to the right
- On our way to the Rabl-Kreuz-Hütte at the foot of the Hochwechsel, we pass the Ochsenkopf, or St. Jakob im Walde family ski mountain. After about another kilometer, at the turn of the 10-km trail, we leave the red-marked trail and continue straight ahead towards Hochwechsel
- The high-altitude trail leads us over the so-called Bühlhofer-Höhe past the Blasenkogel and the Herrenstein (here we can marvel at the mighty wind turbines) to the Rabl-Kreuz-Hütte on the Hochwechsel. After around 2.5 hours and 12.5 kilometers, we reach our destination and treat ourselves to some refreshments in the rustic hut
- Now we make our way back to Gasthof Orthofer
- From the Rabl-Kreuz hut until we reach the 10 km trail again at the turn-off, we stick to the same trail as on the ascent
- Then we turn right until we reach the Fütterung crossroads
- We then keep to the right twice and finally reach Blochplatz again
- Here we turn right into the descent, then master a small ascent so that we reach the start/finish area again
The 25 kilometer long high-altitude cross-country ski trail, starting from the Jogllandloipe in St. Jakob im Walde, is perfect for a day-long cross-country skiing tour through the wintry landscape - with refreshment stops for refreshments!
