Kumpitz circular hiking trail
On the trail of Hödlmoser and along the Kumpitzer-Landjugend hiking trail. A beautiful circular hike, starting from the center of Fohnsdorf.
The Kumpitz circular hiking trail connects two hiking trails in the municipality of Fohnsdorf, namely the themed trail "In the footsteps of Hödlmoser" and the Kumpitz rural youth hiking trail. In 2013, the themed trail "In the footsteps of Hödlmoser" was opened, which is dedicated to the story of Hödlmoser by Reinhard P. Gruber. A quote from the book reads as follows: "like no other people, the styrian people love their homeland. they live their homeland. they identify with it. they are SELF styria. the brook, the stone, the field, the river, the mountain, the forest, the ALPS, the trees, the wine, the cider, the beer, the fruit, the mountains, the caves, the soil, the village, the town, the bush, the birds, the animal, the styrian, the clothes, the peculiar life - THIS IS THE STYRIAN PEOPLE. the styrian who loves his homeland - and there is no other, that's how we are - loves himself, because he himself is styria." The connection to the homeland is also reflected in the Kumpitz country youth hiking trail, which was built to get to know Kumpitz and the surrounding area and to enjoy nature.

More information
From St. Michael in Upper Styria via the Murtal expressway S36 (toll sticker required) to the "Zeltweg-West" exit. Then via Aichdorf to Fohnsdorf (36 km, approx. 25 minutes).
From Judenburg via the Murtal expressway S36 (toll sticker required) to the "Judenburg-Ost" exit and on to Fohnsdorf (10 km, approx. 15 minutes).
At the main square in Fohnsdorf (1), 736 m, we follow the yellow signposts and walk past the church, slightly uphill for approx. 200 m, then turn left into Bergmanngasse. We stay on Bergmanngasse until we reach the Hochwiesenweg junction. Continue straight ahead along Auerlingstraße until you reach the Sonnenweg junction, where you turn right and continue slightly uphill. Immediately afterwards we see the trail markings and the entrance (2), 773 m, to the long-distance hiking trail 08. We walk along the asphalt road for a while and then turn left through a wooden gate. Along the meadow and further on through the populated area we come to the beginning of the Dietersdorfergraben and thus to a hiking trail junction. Here we turn left and immediately right again slightly uphill, following the asphalt road through the populated area of Dietersdorf and come directly to the start of the path towards the themed trail "In the footsteps of Hödlmoser". Through the forest uphill and then across a meadow we come to the Barbara Chapel (3), 899 m, and thus also to the start of the themed trail. This is followed by a beautiful section through the forest along a hollow path. We pass several information boards, reach a forest road and follow it to the left. At the "Zu guter Letzt" information board, we turn right and follow the trail to the Stoxreiter snack station (4), 1007 m. We walk directly between the buildings and come to a wide gravel road, which we now follow down to the left. The next 2 km lead along this road until we see the entrance (5), 872 m, to the hiking trail or hollow path in a bend to the right. We follow the hollow path until we see a building on the left. Immediately afterwards, we branch off to the left onto the narrow gravel road and now walk almost level, always straight ahead, until we reach the sparsely populated area of Kumpitz. We walk through the small village of Kumpitz (6), 756 m, and keep straight on at the crossroads. We walk along the forest road for a while, which we follow until the junction on the right (7), 752 m. The hiking trail now leads as a path along the edge of the forest and then across the meadow. We continue on a gravel road that leads directly past the tennis courts. At the next crossroads, we turn left and continue to the Sonnenrain crossroads, where we turn right. Straight ahead to the next crossroads, where we now turn left slightly uphill towards Dietersdorfer Graben and come to the junction we already know towards Fohnsdorf. From here we follow the path to the starting point of the hike.
Along the way you will find nice resting places where you can read the book "Aus dem Leben Hödlmosers" by Reinhard P. Gruber.
